NLC, TUC VS FG

The two umbrella labour organisation in the country – the Nigeria labour congress (NLC) and the trade union congress (TUC), called for a nationwide strike starting from Monday January 9, 2012 to put pressure on the federal government to reverse its decision removing the subsidy on premium motor spirit also known as petrol, and revert the price of the product to 65 per litre.
Back in the days of the former President (CHIEF OLUSEGUN OBASANJO) and the days of
the former NLC President (COMRADE ADAMS OSHIOMOLE) similar controversies had been encountered, NLC breaking out on the street after any slight increase in the price of petrol but from critical observation none of these strike actions yielded a meaningful result. In all of those times the federal government and the Nigeria labour congress moved to the negotiation table discussed and the next thing we here was NLC have suspended the strike till further notice. At the long run the federal government usually succeeds imposing their wish on the citizen.
It has happened again NLC is requesting that the federal government should revert to the old price but the federal government after the federal executive meeting early this week said that, subsidy has come to stay. The big questions now are: Can NLC really forces the federal government to revert to the old price? Can the citizens be patient enough to see these processes run through their eyes? Who will end up as the winner?
Let`s all wait and see, but one thing I know is, if NLC really meant what they are saying and they do want the government to revert to the old price then they should be ready to pay the price. The line is drawn!!!
