My Short Take On #30%Ornothing By Ogundana Michael

That you are in need of something desperately does not mean you are justified to have it from any source and by any means possible.
If you must have it, then the processes involved must be right and justified. Aside from that if you must have it; the timing must also be right and worthy.
For the past few weeks, some groups of young Nigerians have been chanting and demanding from the government thirty percent inclusion of talented and responsible young Nigerians into governance with the hash tag  #30%ORNOTHING.
According to the group, the aim of this demand is to help prepare and build young Nigerians for future leadership position for the country. Hoping and believing that it could be a bold step in addressing some of the county`s numerous challenges
But, how could they possibility think that #30%ORNOTHING is the way forward for our country?
Of course the inclusion of you young citizens into the governance of any country is a sure good and welcomed idea for a visionary country. The implication is, with the right minds in government, that is, leaders that are selfless and visionary, youth inclusion in governance would not be a course to be demanded or fought for. Basically, it would be a norm and the right thing to do for a good thinking and visionary government.
But, When the inclusion of youth into the affairs of a nation now becomes a course that`s being debated or strongly demanded by some group of people, it implies that the government on board is less concerned about the future of the nation and more concerned about itself and selfish desires.
This logically means that when the right set of people are saddled with the responsibilities of governing a nation there would be no need to start a movement or struggle before one has a sizeable percentage of young citizen being represented in governance.
I must say that I respect the courage of those that has taken their time to ask for the inclusion of talented and responsible young Nigerians into the governance of the country.
However, I feel that a demand like this is definitely not the way forward for our country and not even a starting point.
The fact is, we might be doing ourselves more harm than good and be endangering the future of our nation if talented and responsible young Nigerians that will do the country good are allowed to breed with the set of political leaders we have now in our nation.
What kind of governance do we expect them to learn from a corrupt and selfish administration?
What kind of governance do we expect them to learn from an administration that seems less concerned about the future of the nation but solely concerned about electoral gains?
The truth is they might end being influenced wrongly and consequently end up being like them. One may possibly argue that it is not possible but blessed are those who sit not in the seat of the scornful.
Those that know Abatti before would not have thought that he will one day tell so much lies to defend his boss like he does now. We all saw Sherriff in the photograph with President Jonathan in Chad but because Abatti is now with the wrong company he was doing all he could to defend the impunity of his boss. He was ready to defend the impunity with all propaganda. That is a typical example of what our youths can become if they eventually force their way into a government that is callous, clueless and absolutely not visionary. Another good man used to be Farouk Lawal but where does he stand today? Dimeji Bankole is a brave and talented young Nigeria but where is he today?
The point is talented and responsible young Nigerians could end up being polluted if they mingle with the wrong minds in government. Only a very few percentage could end up not being polluted with bad ideas and greed.
It is because we have not gotten the right government in action that’s why we demanding for what is suppose to be a right and common sense- #30%ORNothing.
If we succeeded in getting the right government in action then we can be rest assured that a sizeable percentage of talented and responsible young Nigerians will be included in governance without unnecessary demand and chanting and without fear of being corrupted and polluted.
In such way we will be convinced that any young Nigerian included in governance will be going there to learn good leadership skills and end up being a better leader in future.
We can be a great nation when we put the first and right thing firstly and rightly!
It is with this do I enjoin all Nigerians to join me as we demand 100% good governance or nothing. This is sure the first and the right thing to do and every other thing such as #30%ORNOTHINIG will follow with ease.

God Bless Nigeria
